In the last few years, GMO-free food and feed production significantly increased their relevance on the European market – through a growing number of effective national labeling systems as well as through enlarging the amount and range of GMO-free products on the market. Also in the US an increasing amount of products labeled by the Non-GMO Project can be found in the shelves.
Out of this reason, the Austrian labeling platform ARGE Gentechnik-frei and the German labeling organization VLOG e.V. together with supporters from politics and from the food and retail chain organize the first "International GMO-free Labeling Conference" in Vienna, on April 25th, 2016. Intensive exchange of experiences between the labeling systems, companies from the full value chain and relevant stakeholders will form the focus of the one-day-conference; just as well as a discussion about the way towards mutual acceptance of the individual labeling systems and towards an increased convergence of production and monitoring standards.
The intensive exchange aims towards further increasing the market position of GMO-free food and feed production and towards identifying possibilities for improving the legal and economic frameworks.
