Austria´s consumers can choose from a wide range of GMO-free food:
- Not a single supermarket in Austria sells food that needs to be labelled „genetically engineered“, according to the EU Labelling Regulation. Almost all national retailers are fully committed to take products that would be subject to be labelled as “contains GMOs) off their shelves.
- Hardly any other European country offers a comparable range of organic products. All organic products are GMO-free – this is defined in the EU Organic Regulation 834/2007.
- And: GMO-free production is also advancing fast in the conventional agriculture and food production: More and more producers rely on natural, GMO-free food and feed production. More than 3,500 products already carry the the green label “Ohne Gentechnik hergestellt”.
